Trouble At Mill

Five days go, I had a user error turn up on my PC. Hubby went into administration and managed to copy the files over to a new profile. Started the computer today and the new profile is missing with my work on it. Tried old profile, got the same message:

'THE USER PROFILE SERVICE SERVICE FAILED THE LOGON. USER PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED'

Any technical-minded people out there who can give me some advice? Doing what I can by mobile, which is bloody inconvenient >:-(

Thankfully, we have restored the settings - am perturbed that the damn thing has developed new glitches i.e. instead of 'I will refuse to reboot until you reattach the fiddly wire in the back A-GAIN,' it has now moved on to 'I'm gonna hide all of your files - ha!'

here's the MS KB article on this.

I'd try logging in as the administrator and seeing if you could do any of the UAC stuff for the temporary profile before messing around with registry edits, personally.

I just googled the message you got, and there is some good advice, although it sounds like it's a pretty involved fix.

Try this:

Also, thought I'd mention that my spell checker doesn't like 'googled'. I am surprised. That obviously has nothing to do with your problem, but you never know when this information might be useful!
