I have read up re writing for a living - seems that the publishers prefer 3 chapters of a novel than short stories. Will have to rethink my style (short stories and plenty of them).

Maybe the format of Poe works, he first published in newspapers and then created a collection afterwards.

Yes, you are right - when it comes to short story publications, it is best to start sending your stuff to magazine/short story competitions. I have been told that I should start small and work my way up :-)
