Verdi - Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves

This music was one of my first ever memories - my mother used to be an avid Radio 3 listener and all of her aunts and uncles had a fine supply of classical music.  Sometimes I think that some pieces have almost been embossed upon my brain stem LOL :-)

OH how wonderful and beautiful.
For me Verdi was the gateway to opera as well.

I think I read somewhere that the Italians used this song as a protest song against the Austrian Emperor Francis when he visited Milan which was Austrian at that point in time. They drowned out the Austrian National Anthem with their singing.

What a fabulous protest song!

It's a very emotive song. As I said, it is one of my earliest memories - it wasn't until I was in my teens that I read and understood the song. I love 'Carmina Burana' by Carl Orff too :-)
