The Tinner's Hounds

These caused quite a stir when installed a few years back.  Estimated to cost £30,000 to make, these bronze dog statues were cast out of old miner's boots and the references made by the locals ranged from 'Mildly amusing' to 'grotesque...a waste of tax payers money.'  I think they are rather endearing and I am sure the furor has died down somewhat now.

I didn't realise they were bronze, I only saw the original ones made from the boots. I love them because the original boots they came from Geevor and was told that it's highly probable that one of the pairs was worn by my dad. (because the artist took them from a certain locker that only particular people used)

Wow - how brilliant to have that portrayed as part of the monument. I remember the mines closing down and how destitute the miners became, their livelihood stripped from them ( even if in truth the mining industry had been in trouble for years).

I find the statues both endearing and inventive. A lovely tribute :-)
