James Boswell - We Meet Again

My Romantic hero for pp is on Jean-Jacques Rousseau and have spent most of yesterday gleaning info and putting the pp together.  Earlier this year, I was researching about an alleged distant relation of mine named Mary Bryant and wrote about my findings in LJ.  My research included the biographies of both Mary Bryant and her benefactor James Boswell (pictured above). He was a well-placed Lord with his heart in the right place, but alas his other organ was often found in all the wrong places.

Cutting to the chase, I am researching Rousseau and it appears that R's wife Therese had an affair with James Boswell, who was staying at the house at that time and quite likely bore him a child, according to Infed.org

Well, well, well, Mr Boswell - we meet again.  You put yourself about a bit, don't you?

How exciting. A pension of a tenner for life... so - heh heh heh. My goodness what a super ancestor you had... what an adventurous life and how BRAVE of her.. and she got back HOME!!!! TO CORNWALL even.

I must say I had no idea that Boswell was worse than Pepys by the sound of it. His lady friends must have been very very ... happy?

ANd when I read that last sentence... my eyes translated it as 'alas, his organ LOFT found all the wrong places' teehee. Had to re-read to get the right connection!

That is a super find!

I DO enjoy seeing your posts come up on my LJ... I really DO. Thanks so much for sharing them.

it is an interesting story - I do not know for sure if she is an ancestor, but the family names and her last resting place appears to be our local town - on quite a small peninsular. One day, I will research it better and find out for sure.

Organ Loft LOL - I will HAVE to write a little clearer. He was quite prolific was Mr B. An interesting character. I have ordered a book about him just to find out more (will have to stop this - my Amazon account is through the roof at the moment, not to mention that I have more books than a house can stand).

I do the same with Amazon... but I buy all the secondhand ones... at a PENNY... and then it's only the postage. And I've forty one books on one shelf to read yet, and am now ploughing through a series to catch up on my historicals as I am hopefully visiting Malta Crete and Rhodes, and Cyprus... so the Templars are needed to be refreshed.

Golly... penny ones are so irresistible.... I wonder if they have a Boswell for a penny. World of Books is BY FAR the best people to buy from. THey're UK based too... so you might be able to get to them by phone or email direct? They're a super firm and soooo kind and helpful and fun.
