50 Day Question Challenge 2016 - Day 15

15. When do you think a person is ready for marriage?
For some reason, this question has irritated me - because it presumes that a) I expect that everyone should get married and b) I am some authority on the concept and base it around my personal bias.  Absolutely nothing is guarenteed - some people chose their life partner early on; some very late or not at all.  Some should not be in long term relationships because their default setting is to be suffocated by that very thought and to react accordingly.

For me - I kinda knew back when I first met him.  However, I have a natural abhorrence to traditional dress/style of wedding (Woman = Meringue/Hubby = Penguin).  He proposed - I accepted with the only condition that it was as low key as I could make it.  I was exceptionally happy with a borrowed gypsy skirt and scoop neck top, registra marriage with five people in attendence, meal afterwards.  Total cost (ring, certificate, food) = £150.  Been married 22 years, now - so I think we are doing something right :-)

We spent more than that, but we just ticked 37, so I think we are in good stead (and he's still my best buddy). *hugs*

I think people have gotten carried away with the 'glamour' and truly forgotten what's important, the commitment you are making to each other.

My thoughts exactly.
