I came across NLP in the late nineties - they had a programme called 'Goal Wizard,' which I found quite useful, because it centered on how you are going to achieve your goal in manageable steps. My sister followed the courses quite closely; Bandler/Grinder et al and understanding body language, mirroring etc - though the latter must be difficult to achieve on line (unless you have skype LOL). From what I can tell from the recent blurb, they have refined their techniques to include tapping and various other mechanisms.
I apologise if I am over-simplifying their stuff - I haven't read up on the progress on NLP for a fair while, but it is a big thing in the UK. It is currently used by life coaches and businessmen to get optimum results. I talked about it with a Psychology lecturer, who would not give it house room - another felt it was just another form of CBT, just as step further.
It cannot be denied as to how successful NLP has been, though. Many success stories have been told, so maybe the techniques have more 'ecological validity' than mainstream psychology would give it credt for.
