Oh Subtitles... they are EXTRAORDINARY.. The French don't have words like you shitface or Shite, you m'f'r or even f'''''g. it is all 'Putain'. ALL. And there's action, violent speech ACTION going on on the film but the subtitles drag the speech so slowly into ... blancmange.
(Went to see Birdman in the cinema and it is full - but FULL of F****gs FULL! and most of it was ignored if it was IN a sentence... You F'g well said I f'g could f'g lift this f'g case you f'g basturd! French was 'It is possible to raise this valise putain?' Not even an exclamation mark ever shows. teehee...
I remember seeing Manon Lescaut years ago... in UK and it was in French and I understood the speech - but when the dirty old man wanted to buy Manon's services for indecent things... the subtitle was 'I want to be your sugar-daddy!' I burst out laughing... to shssshsss from the audience!
Enjoy Inspector Montalbano's physique... He's nice to look at and I love the songs of their speech.
