I am not sure - I suppose it is always the antagonist, who ultimately threatens the life of the protagonist. I suppose it is what it represents - the monster.
With women monsters it is either about producing poisonous/sleeping draughts or getting another to do their bidding. With 'Bluebeard,' it is far more physically threatening.
