My old schools considered James Joyce the worst thing since Lady Chatterly... but despite all things, we managed! (Except that I never DID find these letters until I gained this ripe old age, and have SO enjoyed the enthusiasm with which he writes. I'm so relieved that humans WERE so deliciously human in days past... wish I'd known about it!
