70s Electronic Music Day

I have been on a bit of a retro 70's trip recently, listing to music that defined my home life.  My parents were very New Age and loved experimental electronic music of the time. An amalgamation of memories, some not so good - but there was a lot of very atmospheric and creatively-inspiring music around. A colourful time.  My parents were big fans of Tangerine Dream, Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis, so I picked the top ones that I remember very well.

1) Tangerine Dream - Rubycon

I loved this piece of music, because it reminded me of our local estuary, that ran out to the sea.  I would paint the scene during art class and the music reminded me of the birds on the Saltings.

2) Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene

I grew up with this all through my teenage years too.  The last piece specifically 33:20 brings back very recent poignant memories - I played it a lot at a time when I had become so ill, that I thought I was dying.  Now when I listen to it, I feel joyful - because I am still alive.

3) Vangelis - Heaven and Hell

I must admit to hearing more of this in the early eighties - especially 13:20 - the theme tune to Carl Sagan's Cosmos.  I used to love hearing his stuff (he had just this amazing voice that was so comforting) and I was fascinated with the stars.  I remember my sister and myself as kids sitting together looking at the stars.
