George Eliot's novel "Middlemarch" is one of my favorite novels. A true work of Art. I recently picked up used "Brick Lane" by Monica Ali. I have two novels by Jean Rhys in our book collection, "After Leaving Mr. Mackenzie" and "Quartet"-have not read these books by Rhys-someday I plan to read Attwood since I collect her writings. Years ago I was really into Bertolt Brecht-I took one year in college a Drama class and did a term paper on Brecht-peace

The Jean Rhys one is an imagined prequel to Charlotte Bronte's 'Jane Eyre'. It centers around Bertha and her early years. The FdA ones are the ones on the list for the second year of my degree, the other ones piqued my interest as we read extracts from them in class. I read an extract from 'Alias Grace' last academic year and I really wanted to find out if Grace was a murder. I think I have to grab some James Joyce too - was meaning to read Ulysses and Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man.

I also need to reread some - read Dorian Gray twice, but I think it is coming up next year and Zadie Smith's White Teeth is another. Enjoyed it at the time, but it was years ago. My book list is endless - I was meant to read Steinbeck East of Eden and The Grapes of Wrath, but didn't get round to it. :-/
