I have chosen Tim Burton as autuer for my subject in the Contextual Study of Film module.  I have already got Big Fish, Corpse Bride, Nightmare Before Christmas, Big Fish and Alice in Wonderland, but have had to order Batman, Batman Returns, Frankenweenie, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks! Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. Although I have seen all of these films, I need to throw myself in the deep end and really study the symbols and themes of his work more closely.  I can see where he is influenced by Dr Seuss' characters and how his time spent with Disney paid off. I think I will be thoroughly glued to the box come Reading Week at the end of October.

I just love Tim Burton and the way he tells his stories. Nightmare is my favourite Xmas movie!

Mine too - I love Henry Selleck's input :-)

what a cool reason to watch lots of Tim Burton! What about Sleepy Hollow and Dark Shadows or Sweeny Todd? Those are three of my faves by him or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... have you seen the short Vincent?

That was my thought too - a brilliant reason to soak it up, especially this time of year. I think I have to write up about all of the common traits of Burton's influences and see how they translate into his work.

I haven't seen 'Vincent' before - I had naturally assumed that Vincent was Vincent Van Dort from 'the Corpse Bride.' Thank you for this, it is great - I will repost the video at the end of the month :-)

glad to be of assistance. I do love Tim Burton's commitment to his particular well of images and themes, he adapts them to all sorts of different stories whilst being true to himself, a difficult thing to retain when funds are required I think.
