36) What you're majoring in in college/what you plan to major in?

English literature.  It has been my life for the last 2.5 years. I never thought that I would ever get the chance to do it. It has broadened my understanding of many subjects aside from English - geography, history, psychology, sociology and especially art. It helps that we have entertaining lecturers who are passionate about their subject.

I agree with you, it is something that we discuss at university level - how communication has changed and things can be rewritten, or as you say, dumbed down for TV.

LJ for example. I find that people still converse on here, but on WordPress you are unlikely to get a peep from anyone other than clicking the 'like' button. Because of the like of Twitter and Facebook, we live on bullet points and pretty pictures, or nothing would grab our attention.

I am with you re the archaeological research - for instance, I have lost count how many supposed theories of King Tutankhamen's death recently, from vengeful 18th Dynasty priests to a simple fall from a chariot, the debate rages on.

My third year flatmate at university was studying english lit and we were amazed how much of our studies crossed over, movements in literary criticism bring in history, philosophy, sociology, psychology and all sorts of other things, it's eye opening!

Yes - there was a lot of social commentary prior to the Industrial Revolution and even more after that. I have learnt more about history thanks to Post Colonial/Marxist/Feminist theory than I ever did before :-)
