To me, the Lyngham version is the proper way. The original version is dreary!

The original is too associated with While Shepherds washed their socks... versions at school for me to be able to listen to it properly. The version you posted feels more meaningful and heartfelt :-)

There are quite a few ''Cornish' arrangement; there was an especially nice one of 'The Holly & the Ivy' which was quite jolly.
