I cannot but feel a bit sorry for Boris.  He didn't expect a Brexit win and looked very subdued when he faced the press.  He was infamously stymied by Michael Gove and now self-appointed mother-of-the-nation PM Theresa May has made Boris Foreign Secretary.  A lot of the world have said "Is she having a larf?" The French aren't too fond either - "Le Boo!"

It does seem unusual appointment - it might just be the time that Boris actually shines.  For a Tory MP, he is immensely popular, nay likeable - but has an awful amount of spadework to do.  Going around the world, apologising to leaders of various countries til the next general election, could just be the making of him.

If he didn't expect to win, then he shouldn't have been on that side... ? I don't feel sorry for him, because he did what he did for purely self-aggrandizing reasons, and now it's backfired on him... Well-deserved, I say. :-)

I was kind of 'tongue in cheek' when I wrote this. I think what we must ask is 'do we/therest of the World deserve Boris?'

He will either make a really good job of it, or a spectacular mess - we will have to sit back with the popcorn and wait 'n see :-/

I think he will actually do a damned good job... apparently he can be such a charmer!!! And he might just realise that he has to grow up at certain times. He is terribly clever, intelligent and when given a job that will stretch him, I think he'll rise to the challenge. We'll have to wait a bit to see... but there might be some surprised ex-presidents and so on later!!

And he does seem to have been quarantined from the actual JOB of the Foreign Office... just a sort of roving Jollyman who slaps you on the back, agrees with you, and then reports back to Boss-lady 'M' back in MI5/6!!!! (who MUST have a white cat to stroke???!!!)

He reminds me of Orinoco Womble - the fat grey one, who couldn't stop eating.

You don't think he's a racist then? He's representing us to the world and yet his language reveals a deep lack of respect for other races and cultures. I don't feel sorry for him.

I was saying this a bit tongue in cheek and I was horrified by his 'pickaninny' quip. Polly Toynbee said that key members visibly aged ten years when they heard the news.

Either he will draw his horns in, or he would be the worst choice, only one better than if they offered Prince Philip the job.
