[Error: unknown template qotd]Unfortunately, it is all academic research books, or of literary merit. So ploughing through Tim Burton film techniques and reading 'Hard Times' & 'North and South' (though the latter seems like aons ago).

I have a whole stack to read, but I want to read the Daniel Tammet books 'Born on a Blue Day: The Gift of an Extraordinary Mind' and 'Embracing the Wide Sky: A Tour Across the Horizons of the Mind: The Enormous Potential of Your Mind.'

[Error: unknown template qotd]I tend to fast forward most of the ads, because by the time I get to the recording schedule on the SKY Box, I don't have time for live TV. Adverts can be annoying, but there is always the mute button. my favourite ones were The Guinness Racing Snails and the old Limara advert.

[Error: unknown template qotd]We all know ones who were as dry as toast and maybe the odd sadistic ones. Personally, it was all of those teachers who failed to show up for class and effectively left the lunatics run the asylum.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Well, I have kinda inherited lots of photos and bumf from grandparents and parent, simply for the dint of them not being here themselves anymore.

I have my father's sword/knife collection, a beloved ornate brass table and a rosewood writing box, amongst other things. Most of it not worth a lot, but are nevertheless treasured.

[Error: unknown template qotd]People who cut you up either on the road or in the supermarket - then dawdle, making it impossible to pass them.

Lateness - P2 used to irritate me when I used to pick him up from town. I would be waiting in a 'no parking' zone for 10 minutes or more. He would then appear, saying that he didn't know what the time was. I would be like,"You have a watch strapped to your wrist, a mobile phone in your pocket and are with friends, who have similar devices. Plus, there is a town clock that chimes every quarter of an hour - how can you NOT know what f******* time it is??" Suffice to say, he is rarely late now.

Bad grammar - not that keen on people who change nouns into verbs either.

Other pet peeves:

1)Overused buzzwords, specifically new ones e.g. "Part of life's rich tapestry"; "high octane career"; "singing from the same songsheet." Nrrrrgghhhaaa!

2)Bad portmanteaus. I was brought up to reject the word 'ginormous' as not being a word (I can hear my mother say even now that something is 'GIAgantic' or 'enorMOUS' but never, ever an unholy coupling of both. Ironic as now 'ginormous' is in the dictionary as an accepted word. My parents would turn in their urns if they knew this.

However, P2 (funny how his name pops up twice in my list of irritations) bandied around the word 'prettiful' to get a reaction and I found that I actually liked the word.

Well, look at me - the anal-rententive parent hell-bent on good form. LOL, I promise that I am not - I just do the British thing of wincing a lot in public, then having a tirade when I get home :-)

[Error: unknown template qotd]My first best friend was when I was about 7 years old, we parted when my family moved back to Cornwall when I was nine. I wrote to her, but she never replied - then I forgot about her. I am not sure what I would say to her today - i would have a sketchy timeline of reference and could probably pick out key teachers etc.

I would wish her well - from what I can remember she was a nice kid.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Everything that I liked as a kid, is either repeated or has had a makeover already. On the whole, it hasn't been great - so, no. From my young adulthood, I would like to see reruns of 'Northern Exposure.'

Hi Everyone!

Do you remember Writer's Block, the question of the day that helped inspire your creativity? Well, we are bringing it back! We want to preserve the original idea of Writer's Block, of course, but we also want to increase the focus on writing.

Before we get too far along in restoring it though, we'd like to hear your feedback! Previously, the Writer's Block was a community and a module on the homepage which allowed you to post answers to your journal. Did you get more use out of it on the homepage or within the community? Did you answer mostly through the comments or did you use it to start new blog posts via the homepage module?

For the new Writer's Block, we would like to post a question every weekday except for Friday. On Fridays we'd like to try something a little different and feature a special writing prompt that is designed not only to spark your imagination, but to hone specific writing skills such as character development, tone, or description of setting. What are your thoughts on adding this type of prompt?

Thank you so much in advance! We are very excited about the renewal of this feature!

For those who have been on here longer than five minutes, ye olde 'Writer's Block' facility on LiveJournal is coming back. I responded to their comments column in the positive, but the news item has disappeared since and I cannot give a direct quote from their web page. Now I used to use this facility until it disappeared in 2012, but the rest of my diary was private.  It was the disappearance of WB that encouraged me to post pix, quotes and other observations.

Still, if they do bring it back, it will be great - as long it is not too personal, repetitive or banal.  Tall order LJ - let's see how it goes.
