Yes - One at a time over a gradual period would be no problem. Mass exodus however, is another thing. With some, it's not just the next town, it's in Canada ffs. It is the vacuum that I am concerned about. especially one of them. Like - yeah, turn my life upside down, fill it with glitter and grit and blood and rainbows for almost a generation THEN fucking leave. Great. I'll WILL get over it, but because of the strength of my feeling, I will treat it like a mini passing - grieve and then move on.
Our community died when our last little shop was dissolved with our post office closing. Many close people don't live near me (bar one and she's the one who is trying to sell up and scale down into cheaper accommodation), but are still within an easy distance. I can be guilty of putting myself well out of reach, too. Not only for my sanity, but for the fact I HAVE to complete this degree. So many things hinge on it.
